Delighted to chat with Richard Curran on R.T.E. Radio 1, The Business about the fantastic news that the crew on the South African Icebreaker Agulhas II have discovered Shackleton’s ship the Endurance. The footage is amazing and shows how well preserved it is. Located 4 miles from the site recorded over 100 years ago, by the amazing navigator Captain Frank Worsley and over 3km deep. Coincidently, it was discovered 100 years to the day of Shackleton’s burial in South Georgia. Just viewing the ship’s wheel and imagining our grandfather there over 100 years ago, is spine chilling. Just shared a few stories about my grandfather, growing up and of our family centenary expedition to South Georgia where I broke my leg on Crean glacier, taking 15 days to reach Chile for an operation. Bill wrote a book about our training and adventures called “Honouring Tom Crean”.
Congratulations to the Falklands Heritage Trust who chartered the S.A. Agulhas II, the captain Knowledge Bengu and his team.
